What does Fellowship on Global Health Equity (GHE) aim ?

Fellowship on Global Health Equity (GHE) program aims to enhance healthcare delivery in rural areas by placing medical doctors in Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs) for a year. This initiative includes academic training in global health and social medicine, addressing health workforce gaps, and improving primary care services in underserved communities.

What are the Objectives?

Mobilize Medical Doctors

  • Deploy doctors to rural municipalities to provide primary care services.

Training in Social Medicine

  • Equip primary care physicians with skills in social medicine, health equity, biosocial research, meta-leadership, and quality improvement.

Enhance Community Health Worker Skills

  • Improve the capabilities of community health workers through physician guidance.

Contribute to Local Health Policy

  • Enable fellows to participate in developing local health policies, community programs, and budgets.

Program Structure

Clinical Training

Fellows will undergo clinical training in primary care, emergency medicine, disaster management, and pandemic response.

Public Health Training

Training will include health financing, community engagement, policy writing, research methods, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030.

Hybrid Model

The training will combine clinical and public health skills to provide comprehensive care to patients in the community.

Accreditation and Incentives

Accreditation

Fellows will be accredited both by their home country university (In Nepal, Karnali Academy of Health Sciences) and a US-based university.

Incentives

Local municipalities will provide monthly incentives to the doctors.

Implementation

Location

The program is implemented in rural communities in partnership with local municipalities and the home university.

Timeline

The fellowship lasts for one year, with fellows receiving special training and accreditation upon completion.

Role of Health Equity Corps (HEC)

  • Program administration, development, and funding management.
  • Training and Certification: HEC will oversee the training and certification of fellow physicians.

Strengthened System for Equitable Healthcare: Support rural municipalities with skilled human resources to strengthen the health system with a focus on underprivileged groups and communities, especially women, children, and marginalized populations, to create a more equitable healthcare system.
